Montipora Capricornis is a plating montipora, also commonly referred to as a monti cap. It is an SPS Coral. also refered to as a Stony Coral or a Hard Coral. The swirling/overlapping, vase like plates make this specimen a favorite amongst reef tank hobbyists. The monti cap prefers moderate to high light by means of Metal Halide lighting or T-5’s. For the monti cap to flourish and thrive it will need good flow, high water quality, and an established system. They tend to feed from the water column, but would benefit from phytoplankton, fish feces. Extremely fragile and new growth can be easily broke off. Monti’s do make an excellent first SPS, for a hobbyist first venture into the keeping of hard corals. The monti will be encrusted on a 1 ½” disc. Shipping can cause breakage along the fragile edges of a monti.
